obama!

Hey everyone, this is Keir. I'm very excited to make the VERY FIRST ONYX INFORMER POST ON THE NEW BLOG!

These are the best of times. I'm sure everyone is aware that Barack Obama is officially the Democratic candidate for the President of the United States! It's all over the news so I'm not going to go into too much detail about it. I just thought this was an important moment to document on the blog- this is important to not just Blacks, but America as a whole. I know we still have a long way to go, but look how far we've come!

My aunt and my mother were especially joyous when they heard Obama would be the candidate for the Democratic party. They kept saying over and over, "I can't believe this happened, in my lifetime." For women who are in their fourties and fifties, this is amazing. But me, as an eighteen year old girl, this is amazing to me too.

As I was watching the news they showed a few young minority children expressing how Obama has inspired and empowered them. I remember one little boy saying, "If Obama can do it I CAN DO IT." That made me happy, to see that even children who probably can't even understand the extent of how miraculous this is or how far America has come from the days where Blacks had no rights, understood that Obama is making history, and is making a very important move for his race.

So for those who are rooting for McCain, or were rooting for Clinton, or anyone else who dropped out earlier in the race, no disrespect. But this is a very important moment not just in Black history, but in American history. Good luck to Obama, and may whoever wins make America an even better place than it already is.
